It’s technically not a ranking factor, but at JDM, we regard E-E-A-T (or Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness, a huge piece of Google’s search rater guidelines) as one of the keys to organic success in 2024.
Even with – or perhaps especially given – the dawning of the SGE age, E-E-A-T is critical to helping your site gain visibility and engagement, and it’s the subject of our new whitepaper, E-E-A-T in 2024: A Comprehensive Guide to the Foundation of SEO.
Prioritizing E-E-A-T in SEO
Why are we putting a lot of eggs in this particular basket if it’s not even a ranking factor?
Well, if you’ve been paying attention, Google has made some updates to help people find first-hand perspectives, which will lead to increasingly personalized experiences based on the searcher’s interests. This means you can expect more content like POVs, links to forum content (Reddit, Quora, etc.), and first-person experiences.
Couple that with one of Google’s splashier 2023 organic announcements (non-SGE division), the broad roll-out of Perspectives, which pulls information about your site’s creators and contributors into the SERP, and the signs are clearly pointing to a focus on the pillars of E-E-A-T.
In short, whether you’re beefing up content on the forums because that’s a good strategy to hedge against any SGE fallout (which we recommend doing, by the way) or simply taking Google’s cues to be less repetitive and add more authority and authenticity to your chosen topic, it’s time to pay attention to E-E-A-T.
