Working remotely, like we do at JDM, doesn’t mean being disconnected from colleagues. As part of our culture-building initiative, and to introduce the digital marketing world to our awesome team members, we regularly peel back the curtain on the lives of JDMers. This week, we’ll get to know Senior Digital Marketing Account Specialist, Mariya Tiama!
Name: Mariya Tiama
Position: Sr. Digital Marketing Account Specialist
Location: Detroit, Michigan
When did you begin working at JDM?
February 16, 2021.
How did you know JDM was the right fit for you?
One of the main reasons I chose JDM to work for is definitely the opportunity for professional and individual growth. I was excited to learn that if you have interest in learning about a certain platform or a skill, they are supportive in getting you there. They provide you with tools, guides, and even shadow expert team members who can guide you through any training or processes to help you learn and improve your skills. They also offer each employee a professional development stipend to invest in their growth, which I think says a lot about the company.
What’s your favorite part of the workday?
Being able to jump on a quick sync to collaborate and brainstorm with teammates when they or I can’t figure out how to solve something. Sometimes all it takes is jumping on a quick call and talking it out with another person to find the solution that’s needed.
What’s the most gratifying part of working with your teammates?
Celebrating their successes - big and small!
In a remote company, how do you stay connected with your team?
Joining monthly virtual coffee syncs. Sometimes I make a point of checking in and saying "Hi" to people on Slack or setting up a quick sync with them just to see how they’re doing.
What three words would you use to describe the JDM culture?
Inclusive, Collaborative, and Transparent.
What's something you love about JDM?
I feel respected and valued for what I bring to the team. I also like that I can learn from other professionals on the team who will push me to take on new and challenging opportunities.
What’s the best thing you’ve done with your unlimited PTO
The best thing I’ve done is to travel and eat all the delicious food! So far this year, I’ve gone to Punta Cana, Denver, and most recently, Grand Rapids and Grand Haven in Michigan.
What's something you love about the marketing industry?
We’re always learning. We’re always discovering new behaviors based on current events and trends regarding what people want and how they respond to different situations. It makes us research the process behind consumers’ decisions and adapt or learn from it when we test new strategies.
What are the names and ages of your kids (or furbabies)?
No furbabies or kids, but I do have 2 nieces if that counts.
